Explorer Scouts

1st Stoughton Explorer unit was formed in September 2002, when a change in age groups in UK Scouting meant that the existing Venture Scout Unit would be stopped and the introduction of two new sections would take its place (Explorer Scouts and Scout Network).

The unit runs a mixture of activities from traditional scouting skills to new and exciting activities with the aim of learning new skills through fun and enjoyment. These include climbing and mountaineering, water sports, target sports, games, DIY and home skills, fires and food (a lot of food!). Explorers is an excellent opportunity to escape from the constant study and exams of school life and enjoy a couple of hours of entertainment!

The Explorer Section is provided by Guildford West District although 1st Stoughton Explorers is linked to the Scout Group via a partnership agreement. It provides scouting activities for young people between the ages of 14 to 18 and is run by Tim (ESL) and Linda (AESL). The unit is one of three units in the district to which we join up for camps, competitions and other activities.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
